Even though it’s Christmas, today was always going to be about our lunch at Clifford Pier next to The Fullerton Bay Hotel. Julie saw they were doing a High Tea lunch several weeks ago and booked us in. We didn’t bother with presents this year apart from a few for Harrison, so our morning was spent in the apartment getting ready for lunch. We decided to catch a cab mainly as they are so cheap in Singapore, and also as we wanted to avoid walking in the muggy conditions.
Lunch was buffet style with a range of Asian and Western foods, all beautifully prepared and presented. Drinks were either a fixed price free-pour or pay by the glass. We opted for the latter mainly as the free-pour would have led to a free-roll out of the place hours later – something we wanted to avoid. We tried to pace ourselves by visiting several times and only putting a few things on the plate, but it wasn’t long until we found our favourites and went back for more. Mine was the braised pork belly and for Harrison it was the ravioli. Julie did the sensible thing and tried a bit of everything.
After finishing lunch and catching a cab back to the apartment, we decided we’d head into Orchard Rd on the MRT so Harrison could spend some of his Christmas money. He and Julie headed into Toys R Us while I went to the bookstore. We met up later after Harrison exhausted the bank balance on Lego and by then the crowds had started to build so it was time to head back. A quick stop to get some food for tonight (and some Tiger beer and a NZ Sav Blanc) and a cab ride up the road – the afternoon storm was just starting – and we’re now back for the evening.
A Merry Christmas to you all from us!
